Watercolour Tips

By popular demand I was asked to offer some tips on the best way to watercolour paint. Rather than write down some bullet points, or heaven forbid, an essay on what to do, I researched some videos that I thought might be a more visual way of understanding watercolour a little better.

I happened upon a Youtube art blogger who calls herself Mary Doodles. Her video WATERCOLOR TIPS! - How To Art offers a good starting point to those who are unsure where to begin with watercolour. If you enjoy this video, I would recommend looking through some of her others as well.

Nothing beats having a go and experimenting yourself. Try things out to see what works, and if it doesn't that is a lesson for next time. You don't need to put all of it into your sketchbook, but it is good to show development. If you try something and it doesn't work, say why it doesn't and what you think you can do to improve it. Then try again. Did you improve it? Analysing your work and developing from it could push you into a higher grade boundary.
